Ioana Ciolacu

Ioana Ciolacu is a contemporary womenswear fashion label from the Romanian designer by the same name. With an MA in Fashion Design and Technology from the prestigious London College of Fashion of University of the Arts London and with design experience from one of the best international brands – Stella McCartney, Ioana has developed strong understanding of creating high quality clothes and unique designs. With a focus on shape, craftsmanship and sustainability, Ioana takes inspiration from architecture and nature combining signature graphics with tailoring techniques.
Her simple yet tailor inspired silhouettes work as canvases for signature graphics – transposed in prints and embroidery -and fabric combinations that all show a deep understanding of shape, proportion and craftsmanship. Ioana’s effortless pieces show a love for playing with custom developed techniques to create a modern and alluring look.

Ioana Ciolacu was born in Iasi, Romania, in ’82. She moved to Bucharest in 2002 and studied both architecture at UAUIM (2002-2010) and arts at UNARTE (2008-2011). In 2012, she received a scholarship for an MA at the London College of Fashion and studied fashion design and technology. During her London period she won the Designer for Tomorrow Award and moved back in 2013 to Bucharest to open her studio. She is currently working on several projects, including developing her main line and diffusion line and strongly believes in growing a sustainable business.
In 2010, loana launched her Bucharest based fashion house. Through loana’s background in both architecture and arts, the label explores the relationship between the static nature of buildings and the fluid structure of clothes, turning the brand into an award-winning creator of ready-to-wear. The collections are defined by loana Ciolacu’s signature that blurs the lines between femininity and masculinity, with an emphasis on tailoring, a personal use of materials and custom developed techniques.

In 2015 Ioana launched the Online Shop and the highly acclaimed video campaign ‘Lure’ produced and directed by Anton & Damian Groves. The fashion film was officially selected in several fashion film festivals such as Miami Fashion Film Festival, Berlin Fashion Film Festival and A Shaded View of Fashion Film Paris and won, among others, Best Film and Best Creative Concept.
In present times she continues to present her seasonal collections and expand worldwide. Starting 2018 she launches Romanian Fashion Council, a platform aimed to promote local young designers and is devoted to supporting and nurturing Romanian fashion designers in a global market.
